Friday Favorites
Protein Pancakes, Miss Austen, my youngest's impending backpacking trip and discount codes!
Welcome to Friday Favorites! This quick glimpse of my week goes out to all subscribers (free and paid). I include a fan-favorite recipe, something I’m watching, reading, or listening to, a recent find, and a weekly win.
What I’m Cooking
I hope you’re about to enjoy a few lazy summer mornings this June. If you want a protein-packed breakfast recipe that won’t make your blood sugar crash, make my Protein Pancakes. We had them on a rainy morning this week, topped with a little warm maple syrup and berries. Perfection! I cook mine in a pre-heated Staub pan coated in a little butter. The butter and maple syrup add a decadent touch, making this a breakfast recipe that feels like a treat.
You can find all the SITK recipes I’ve shared on Substack in my Recipe Index.
What I’m Watching
On a flight home from California last weekend, I dove into Miss Austen on PBS. It’s the sweetest show about Jane Austen’s older sister and their endearing relationship. Some of my fave BBC actresses are in this show, as well as Rose Leslie, who, for all of you Game of Thrones fans, married Jon Snow (she ended up with him in the show and in “real life.”) Can I tell I’m a sappy romantic?
What In My Cart
We’ve been getting my youngest ready for a backpacking trip in Colorado. If anyone wants to say a little prayer for her next week, she will be off the grid hiking and camping for a week and spending the last night sleeping solo under the stars. I’ll be fine. Anyway! We got her these lightweight Vuori shorts that tie at the waist and they seem great for warm summer weather. We needed something she could tie to keep secure with a heavy backpack on. And just fyi, they come in two lengths for the old and young, lol!
Also guys! Aurate reached out to me to share a discount code with my email list. Use SMART20 for 20% off your order. Just in time to buy yourself a gift for Father’s Day! Ha! Feel free to forward this newsletter to any friends or family and share the love. I ordered these cute earrings with their code.
Last but not least, I’m forever influenced by my two daughters to take a little more interest in my skincare and makeup regimen. I ordered this DIBS duo in shade 03 (“dessert island duo) and my youngest taught me how to use the contour side. It’s creamy and easy to use and I love the color!
This Week’s Win
I started planning for our fall Six-Week Basics series and my fall retreat at Kitchenette Farm and it felt great to look ahead, if a little weird to be planning menus with fall ingredients. The best way to get a boost of creativity is to take a much-needed mental break, which is precisely what I’ve been doing for the past couple of weeks!
