I'll be on NBC's HoustonLife Tomorrow!
We'll make Parchment Paper Fish Packets from my cookbook and talk about meal planning and how it reduces mental load during the week.
I couldn't sleep a wink the night before my first TV appearance for a cooking demo. I was nervous about what to take to the set, what to say on air, and where to look during the LIVE filming (no edits, no do-overs). Looking through old photos, I realized that was back in 2017, when HoustonLife was filmed in our local shopping mall. People would stop and watch the filming as they walked by, strollers and shopping bags in hand. I thought I would be mortified, but after filming my segment, I realized I hadn’t noticed anything other than what was happening on set in the moment. It was a total adrenaline rush and I was hooked!
I’ve loved being on HoustonLife over the years, our local NBC lifestyle show. Now they’re in a fancy KPRC studio space with a green room and makeup room. The practice of doing live cooking demos on HoustonLife helped me when appearing on other shows, like The Deborah Duncan Show, Hallmark Home & Family, and Dr. Phil’s morning show. I’m trying to manifest a visit to GMA or The Today Show, so let’s make that happen!
For my segment tomorrow, FishFixe generously gave me haddock and salmon to use in the cooking demo and also shared a discount code for you all. Use code SMART for $20 off your first order. I love FishFixe and keep my freezer stocked at all times! I also want to check out their new spice mixes.
Tune in tomorrow at 1 pm Central Time if you can! Here’s a version of what we’ll make, just in case you want to cook along: Parchment Paper Fish Packets.
You know it’s a kind host when he sees you walking into the studio and grabs your shopping bags of food and set decor to help you unload.

Here are some HoustonLife set outtakes over the years. They were so gracious to me when my cookbook launched! Also, I think I might need to cut my hair shorter again! In other news, all the shirts I'm wearing in the photos above and below are from Hunter Bell. I guess her designs are my TV uniform! This top would be the perfect pop of color on set. I try to wear solid colors because that way it’s less likely to clash with the hosts, but sometimes you just have to grab what you feel comfortable in!
Looking for a birthday or “just because” gift for your best friend, mom, sister, or aunt Sally? I have the perfect idea! You can gift a subscription to my Substack, and the annual subscription can start whenever you want!
Order my award-winning cookbook, Dinner is Done! It includes over 100 weeknight and family-friendly recipes, including chapters on meatless mains, fish and sauces, appetizers and snacks, cocktails, desserts and more.
You are ama zing! You will rock it! Have fun! Xo I'll be watching + and recording.. just in case 😜
I hope to see the clip posted
