How to find a room that's under $1K a night, which theater tickets to book and how to get the best deal, and where to eat and drink before and after shows
Note: I will occasionally update this post with new hotel and theater recs. My latest discoveries will always be at the top of the list. I’m unable to remove plays that are no longer running. Apologies! Broadway.org is a great resource. Also, for ticketing, if you have an American Express Platinum card, you can price out tickets with their concierge department when you call the Amex travel department. I’ve also had great luck with pricing on the Telecharge Amex offers site. If you’re trying to time dinner resos, use this source from Joe Allen.
Guys, NYC hotels are outrageous. Can we agree? And so often disappointing because of the room size, street noise, staff grumpiness, cleanliness, etc. I’m currently in a deep dive of hotel research and thought I’d pull you into my rabbit hole. After my trip this October, I’ll share a “Weekend Recap” with where we stayed and ate, what we saw, where we shopped, etc.
In the meantime, there’s much to decide on for theater and hotels. We can only make it to two shows and my husband is unsure whether he wants to join us. If anyone has seen The Outsiders, please advise if my “the only Broadway show I’ve ever liked is Rent” husband will like it. He thought Hamilton was overrated, guys. Somehow, we’re still married. Below you’ll find a list of the seven plays I’m deciding between and how I like to buy theater tickets, plus the decision list of uptown and downtown hotels. These are the rooms that priced out for less than $1K, either by booking directly from the hotel’s website or through American Express or an online search of room rates.
