Friday Favorites
Easy Easter recipes, Call The Midwife, recent finds and my favorite time of year.
Welcome to Friday Favorites! This quick glimpse of my week goes out to all subscribers (free and paid). I include a fan-favorite recipe, something I’m watching, reading, or listening to, a recent find, and a weekly win.
What I’m Cooking
This week’s recipe(s) are all about the Easter weekend. We’re kicking off the weekend on Thursday with all of my college kids home (yay!) and a belated birthday dinner for my newly 19-year-old. We’re heading out to dinner, but I’ll either make a birthday cake or a Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie and pipe some frosting on it like a cookie cake. We’ll be at our farm for a night or two over the weekend, and I plan on enlisting the troops to help me cook. I’m making a Slow Cooker Glazed Ham to use for slider sandos on Hawaiian King Rolls with Swiss Cheese, grainy mustard, pickles and coleslaw. Warm the sandwiches in the oven on a sheet pan, then brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle with Everything Bagel Seasoning or Maldon Sea Salt for a delicious finish.
You can find all the SITK recipes I’ve shared on Substack in my Recipe Index.
What I’m Reading/Watching
I just got hooked on Call The Midwife and had to force myself to take a break. Why have I just now found this show! After a quick trip to Europe, a 3-day cooking retreat and a conference weekend in NYC, I slept for 12 hours the first night back home. I saw two plays in New York, The Picture of Dorian Gray and All Nighter. I’ll give my thoughts on both, along with the hotel I stayed at, in an updated “New York Research” post next week.
Recent Reads To Mention
If any of you are planning to travel to Europe and are interested in a Spain Food Trip, check out this post from Jeremy Scheck.
I also loved reading David Lebovitz’s post about his Costco experience in France! I need the big jar of flip-top Dijon and the triple pack of cornichons.
I love the Window Seat newsletter and enjoyed this interview with Jessie Randall. Jessie mentions Ett Hem, which is my all-time favorite hotel and a truly magical experience. I adore Loeffler Randall’s feminine blouses and comfy ballet flats, and did a dinner for her team, along with Courtney Barton, at Kitchenette Farm a while back.
What I’m Coveting
It was cold and rainy in NYC over the weekend, so my undying love of the Uniqlo Trench continued. Also, be warned that the Gap Jersey dress I wrote about last weekend is a bit clingy on the booty. I’m not sure if I should keep it! I just reordered TNS Advanced Serum from SkinMedica, which I’m obsessed with and apply daily after washing my face. It’s expensive, but I do think it improves the appearance of my skin tone.
This Week’s Gratitude
My kids are all home this weekend! And it’s my favorite time of year in Houston, before the humidity and triple-digit heat kick in. I was feeling burned out and tired this week and I gave myself permission to do only the most important things and get to sleep early. It was a quiet catch-up week for me!
